TextNow is a telecommunications company that provides free text and calling capability. It also offers prepaid data services using 4G and 5G T-Mobile networks for users who purchase a TextNow SIM card. Advertisements support the free services.

TextNow was founded in 2009 and by 2010 it had 1 million users. They added 500 thousand users in 2011 to make their total active users 1.5 million. TextNow managed to hit 100 Million users in 2017. In 2014, TextNow patented an elastic calling technology that seamlessly switches between cellular networks and Wi-Fi networks. TextNow introduced a first of its kind Ad supported cellular service with a SIM card.

TextNow introduced SIM cards in 2020. Their SIM cards are compatible with unlocked iPhones and Android devices. It costs $0.99 to buy an activation kit that contains the SIM card. You can then proceed with the $0/month Ad supported plan or choose to pay $9.99 per month to remove Ads.

TextNow is popularly known for it’s its unique free calling and texting. It supports this service by showing advertisements to its users.

Users can however opt out of advertisements by paying a monthly fee of $9.99. This removes ads.
